Albus Health, a University of Oxford spin-out, builds a non-contact respiratory monitoring system using sensors and AI to track digital biomarkers and sleep metrics at the bedside.
Albus Health is a medical technology company and a University of Oxford spin-out that has developed what it describes as the world's most comprehensive non-contact respiratory monitoring system, aimed at clinical research and long-term disease monitoring. The company's technology draws on sensor engineering, AI algorithms, computer vision and health data analytics to produce digital biomarkers from passive observation of patients, without physical contact or wearable devices.
Its product, Albus Home, is a bedside device that captures clinically important symptoms and signs while patients sleep. Using a combination of advanced sensors and AI, it measures respiratory rate, heart rate, cough frequency, laboured breathing and a range of sleep parameters, alongside environmental factors such as air quality, temperature and humidity. The underlying design goal is to reduce the burden placed on patients taking part in clinical research and trials.
The system has been deployed in more than 40 countries and has recorded over five billion data points. Albus Health works across the medical technology, pharmaceuticals, clinical research and clinical trials sectors, with applications in long-term disease monitoring and respiratory health.
