Sonio
Sonio develops AI-based cloud software that assists healthcare practitioners during fetal ultrasound examinations to improve prenatal care and detect anomalies earlier.
Sonio develops cloud-based artificial intelligence software designed to assist healthcare practitioners during fetal ultrasound examinations. Its flagship product provides real-time AI support to clinicians performing obstetric scans, helping to detect anomalies earlier and reduce diagnostic errors. The company's work addresses a specific clinical gap: fetal anomalies and examination errors currently go undetected in half of all cases.
The underlying technology is the product of five years of collaboration between experts at Necker Hospital and Ecole Polytechnique, combining clinical obstetric expertise with engineering research in computer vision, medical imaging and clinical decision support. The software is delivered through the cloud and intended for use by practitioners rather than as a standalone diagnostic device.
In 2024 Sonio became a wholly-owned subsidiary of Samsung Medison, the medical imaging arm of Samsung Electronics. Headquartered in France, the company now operates within a global distribution structure as it expands beyond its home market. Its stated focus is prenatal care and women's and children's health, with the aim of reducing stress for expectant parents and improving the start of life for every child.
Technical work at Sonio spans artificial intelligence, computer vision, medical imaging and cloud software engineering, applied to the specific domain of fetal ultrasound analysis.
